About

My Philosophy
I understand that each student has different goals and needs and so therefore tailor my lessons to suit each individual. I have always prided myself on being a thorough and patient teacher.
To me, being a pianist or a musician of any kind is about expressing the music, learning how to listen and to be creative. I love the idea of helping my students play music for the rest of their lives – whether it be professionally or privately for themselves.
Music is the food of the soul and is such an integral part our lives. It is the universal language and will bring you joy for the rest of your life.
My Story
“”Devi Mamak ATCL (performers) LTCL (teachers). Born in Berkeley California, Devi and her family moved to Hawaii and Fiji before settling in Sydney, Australia.
Coming from a long line of musicians and artists, Devi started studying classical piano at the age of five under the tutelage of her mother – well known teacher and composer, Natasha Ivanovsky Perkins.”
After many years of practice, study and teaching piano, I took a break from serious playing to have my family and to focus on my career as a professional dancer. In this field, I am renowned teacher, choreographer and performer with sell out workshops and shows around the world.
In recent years, my passion for the piano and music has been reignited. I am excited to bring an eclectic mix of world music, blues, jazz and classical music into the 21st century, creating music that is romantic, passionate and multilayered. I am proud to say, a few of my recent pieces have been picked for the ANZCA syllabus (grade 6 and 7).
I still travel the world teaching and performing dance and have most recently started performing my own piano compositions for well known dancers around the world including Australia, China, Japan and the USA.
Most recently, I’ve been enjoying collaborating with other musicians on several different projects and composing . These shall be available on all the usual platforms sometime in 2020 so keep watching this space for more information.
I have published my first book of compositions “Five Eclectic Pieces for Piano”, please contact me at devimamak@caravandancecompany.com.au or phone +61 419184231 or purchase in the online shop.
